24 people have lost their lives in a horrific road accident in Morocco. A major accident took place when the bus overturned. A thorough investigation is underway.
Rabat/Morocco: In yet another tragic incident, At least 24 people were killed in a bus accident in Azilal province on Sunday, sources reports. This is one of the worst accidents in recent years in the country. The accident occurred when a minibus on its way to the weekly market in the small Moroccan town of Demnet overturned at a turn, Moroccan official news agency MAP quoted local officials as saying. The bus was taking a turn, when suddenly it overturned and a horrific accident took place.
The reasons for how this accident happened are being ascertained. An investigation has been started into the incident. Officers, along with the Royal Gendarmerie and Civil Protection, arrived at the scene to begin rescue operations. Earlier, in 2015, 33 people were killed in a collision between a semi-trailer truck and a bus carrying a delegation of youth athletes in southern Morocco on Friday. Also, in August last year, 23 people died in a bus accident east of Casablanca.
According to the National Road Safety Agency, there are an average of 3,500 road accident deaths per year in Morocco. While at least 12000 people are injured every year. Here on an average 10 people lose their lives in road accidents every day. Last year this figure of deaths was around 3200.
