New Delhi: P Chidambaram, a senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister, claimed that the concept of India has weakened in recent years. Speaking at Sahitya AajTak, 2022, P Chidambaram asserted that the concept of “secularism” has become twisted over the last several years.

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram remarked, “Although there is a lot happening in India, I don’t believe there has been much contemplation on it.” “In fact, what is happening in India is ordinary; what is happening to India is much more grave and alarming.”

In the past two to two and a half years, “forces that are undermining the idea of India have been at work,” P Chidambaram stated.

“The Preamble to the Constitution protects the concept of India.” India is planned as a nation where social, economic, and political justice support all facets of daily life. The well-known trio of equality, liberty, and fraternity also serves as an example of India. These terms cover all aspects of civil society, but we added “secularism” to focus on one aspect of it. According to Chidambaram, the concept of secularism has suffered great harm in recent years.

Many of the principles (enshrined in the Preamble) have been weakened in recent years, some severely but still repairable. For instance, secularism has been badly damaged. “We have corrupted the definition of secularism today,” which means you must follow a specific religion if you want to get your rights in the country, said Chidambaram on Saturday.
