ATS has apprehended two additional members of the human trafficking gang

The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh has reported the arrest of two additional members of a human trafficking syndicate involved in providing forged Indian identities to individuals from Bangladesh and Myanmar. These individuals were then sent to various countries for employment or even within India.

According to an official statement released on Thursday, the ATS had received intelligence inputs indicating the formation of a syndicate involved in settling illegal infiltrators in India through fake documents and financial support, fostering anti-national activities.

Following both physical and electronic surveillance, the ATS made its first breakthrough on October 11 by apprehending Adilur Rahman Asrafi, Abu Huraira Ghazi, and Sheikh Najibul Haq. The ATS registered a case (12/2023) under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Foreigners Act 1946, and Passport Act, 1967.

After interrogating the arrested individuals, the ATS arrested a Bangladeshi woman, Tania Mandal, and Ibrahim Khan in Bengaluru last Tuesday as they crossed the India-Bangladesh border. Adilur Rahman had brought Tania Mandal into India with the syndicate’s assistance, and she was subsequently sold to Ibrahim Khan for Rs 25,000. Tania Mandal is currently employed as a laborer in a textile factory in Bengaluru.

Ibrahim Khan had been residing in Bengaluru, concealing his identity through forged Indian documents and passports. With these latest arrests, a total of five individuals have been apprehended in connection with the registered case. Legal proceedings are underway, with the two recent arrestees being brought to Lucknow on transit remand from Bengaluru.
