In anticipation of the 31st anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition on December 6, the local administration in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, has bolstered security measures, as announced by officials on Tuesday.
Ayodhya Police, on the eve of the commemoration, revealed stringent security arrangements in the city to prevent any potential untoward incidents related to the historic event.
To ensure the safety of individuals traveling to and from the city, surveillance via CCTV cameras has been heightened, and identity cards are being scrutinized, as reported by the police. Additionally, officials stated an escalation in vehicle checks across various areas of Ayodhya.
SSP Rajkaran Nayyar of Ayodhya urged the public to avoid spreading rumors or creating confusion. He emphasized that the police administration is well-prepared, with teams assigned to different sectors, and additional forces from nearby districts and the Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) of the UP Police deployed. The police system is comprehensive to prevent any undesirable incidents, Nayyar affirmed.
He further highlighted the active role of the information system and social media team in monitoring and verifying information shared on various platforms. Nayyar emphasized the importance of refraining from spreading rumors and assured that the police deployment is tailored to the specific requirements, with a focus on key locations.
The historical context of December 6, 1992, was revisited, underscoring the demolition of the Babri Masjid by a substantial gathering of ‘kar sevaks.’ The aftermath resulted in widespread attacks on the Muslim community in Ayodhya, with homes being looted, set ablaze, and demolished. Subsequent nationwide riots claimed over 1,000 lives.
