Azam Khan, a former Uttar Pradesh minister and a senior leader of the Samajwadi Party, received good news from the Allahabad High Court. They stopped his seven-year jail sentence regarding a fake birth certificate matter. However, while Azam Khan’s punishment got paused, his wife Tanjin Fatima and son Abdullah Azam were given bail but still face the charges.
Azam Khan’s lawyer, Sharad Sharma, confirmed that all three got bail, and Azam Khan’s punishment was paused. This issue started on January 3, 2019, when Akash Saxena, now a BJP MLA, complained to the police. He said that Azam Khan and his wife got two birth certificates for their son Abdullah Azam through dishonest means. The court found them guilty in October 18, 2023, of cheating, forgery, and conspiracy.

The birth certificates had different dates for Abdullah Azam’s birth, causing suspicion. One said he was born on January 1, 1993, while the other claimed September 30, 1990, in Lucknow.
This isn’t the first time Azam Khan has faced legal trouble. He was disqualified from the legislative assembly for three years after a hate speech case in 2019. Despite this, Azam Khan remains a key figure in Uttar Pradesh politics, having won the Rampur Sadar assembly seat an impressive 10 times and serving in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
