KOLKATA: A Bangkok-bound SpiceJet flight was found to have a broken engine blade, following which it made an emergency landing at the Kolkata airport late on Sunday night. Officials said that this Boeing 737 flight number SG83 had 178 passengers and six crew members. The plane had taken off from Kolkata airport for Bangkok at 1.95 am, but minutes later the pilot noticed that a blade on the left engine was broken. He said the pilot immediately contacted air traffic control and a full emergency was declared at the Kolkata airport.
During this time fire engines, ambulances and emergency teams of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) were kept deployed. Airport officials said the plane made an emergency landing at 1.27 am and all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated. The full emergency was lifted at 2 am, he added. The passengers left for Bangkok by another flight at 7.10 am, officials said.
