Bangladesh: 17 killed, 30 injured as bus falls in Madaripur

Bangladesh: At least 16 people were killed and 30 others were injured when a Dhaka-bound bus fell into a ditch and overturned in Bangladesh on Sunday. According to the information, the bus met with an accident when it was passing through Qutubpur area of ​​Shibchar Upazila of Madaripur.

Bangladesh: At least 16 people were killed and 30 others were injured when a Dhaka-bound bus fell into a ditch and overturned in Bangladesh on Sunday. According to the information, a passenger bus veered off the road and fell into a ditch in Bangladesh’s central Madaripur district, nearly 63 km south of the capital Dhaka on Sunday.

The accident occurred as its driver lost control over the bus and plunged it into a ditch on an expressway at about 7:30 a.m. local time. The death toll is expected to climb as many of the injured were in critical condition, the police said.Madaripur Police Superintendent Md Masud Alam said the injured passengers were admitted to different hospitals.

According to the information, the dead could not be identified immediately. Shibchar Highway Police Station OC Abu Naeem MD Mofajzel Haque said that the fire service and police are conducting rescue operations with the locals.

Abdullahel Baki, a local Shibchar Highway Police official, told reporters that “the passenger bus felt into a roadside ditch, leaving 14 passengers dead on the spot and about 25-26 were injured”.

The injured have been shifted to hospitals depending on the severity of their injuries. Several reports claim that the driver of the Emad Paribahan bus lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll into the ditch.
