Batting coach of SRH, Lara changes team’s mindset, reveals secret to franchise’s success

The stunning comeback by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) after the loss of the initial two matches in IPL 2022 is more than amazing. SRH not only won their five consecutive matches, but outclassed their opponents in every department of the game.

Credit should be given to SRH coach and batting legend Brian Lara for changing the team’s batting approach quickly. However, SRH easily surpassed their opponents without much sweating on the ground.

The breathtaking form of Hyderabad has put the franchise in the second spot in the points table, just behind Gujarat Titans. SRH received heavy criticism over team composition and auction strategy after the debacle in the first two matches. The franchise shut down the mouths of their critics with their remarkable performance in the next five encounters.

As a unit, the team failed to click in the starting match of the season. Bowlers failed to fulfil expectations, and the batting unit lacked concrete planning. Kane Williamson led SRH, leaving their failures behind. Team management devised a concrete plan that has proven beneficial to the team.

In a video uploaded by the team, Brian Lara, the SRH batting coach, delved into the same and spoke about the importance of failure for youngsters. On a question of trial and error and how to handle a young player, Lara provided a coaching masterclass.

Through trial and error, there are different ways of going about getting a youngster to understand what you’re talking about. He may just go through a phase of trial and error, where you know, just through failure, he understands what’s happening, “Lara began, speaking about the method of trial and error.

“Some others grasp the opportunity quicker, and even before they get to failure, they understand where you’re coming from,” he continued further.

So you have to have that side of you where you can put your hand around the shoulders of a youngster when they are not doing well. And then there are the others that you just need to use and sort of push in the right direction, “the master concluded.

Incidentally, SRH opener Abhishek Sharma returned to form after two failures. His explosive batting, along with captain Kane Williamson’s calm approach, has made the top orders explosive, which has helped the team to  cope with the opponents’ bowling with ease
