New Delhi: Following to several weeks of speculation and drama for the appointment of Team India’s next head coach, BCCI today named Ravi Shastri as the new coach of the Indian cricket team.
Former speedster and India’s most consisting bowler Zaheer Khan has been appointed as the bowling coach for the Indian national team. Ravi Shastri will remain coach of Team India until 2019 Cricket World Cup. Rahul Dravid was handed over additional responsibility of a batting consultant on specific overseas tours.
The decision was taken by three three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman, who interviewed several candidates for the high-profile job in Mumbai.
Shastri replaced Anil Kumble, who exited after a much publicised difference of opinion with Captain Virat Kohli.
BCCI acting president CK Khanna stated: “On Cricket Advisory Committee’s recommendation, we have decided to appoint Ravi Shastri as the chief coach while Zaheer Khan will be appointed bowling coach for a period of two years till 2019.”
