Mumbai: BCCI on Saturday announced the name of Umran Malik as the replacement for injured Mohammad Shami in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming Bangladesh tour. India is set to play a three-match ODI series. Shami was ruled out for the series after sustaining a shoulder injury during a training session.
The veteran fast bowler is being supervised by the BCCI Medical Team at the NCA, Bengaluru, and will certainly miss the three-match series.
Umran will join the likes of Chahar, Shardul, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Sen in India’s pace attack for the ODI series against Bangladesh starting on Sunday.
BCCI, however, did not mention the nature of Shami’s injury. He was looking to come back into the team after being given a rest in the recently concluded T20 and ODI series in New Zealand
As per the report, Shami’s participation is doubtful in the two-match Test series as well in Bangladesh beginning on December 14.
In the absence of star bowler Jasprit Bumrah, the absence of Shami will weaken the Indian pace attack.
If Shami fails to recover before the start of the Test series, then the cricket board will need to announce Shami’s replacement. The two-match series will be played under the banner of the World Test Championship (WTC).
Revised India’s squad for Bangladesh ODIs: Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul (VC), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Shreyas Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Shahbaz Ahmed, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Sen, Umran Malik
