BCCI Secretary Jay Shah appointed as head Of ICC F&CA Committee

Mumbai: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah will take over a new responsibility in the International Cricket Council (ICC). BCCI secretary Jay Shah has been elected as the head of ICC’s all powerful Finance and Commercial Affairs (F&CA) committee at the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting.

Mumbai: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah will take over a new responsibility in the International Cricket Council (ICC). BCCI secretary Jay Shah has been elected as the head of ICC’s all powerful Finance and Commercial Affairs (F&CA) committee at the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting.

At the same time, Greg Barclay of New Zealand was unanimously elected as the chairman of the ICC. Greg Barkley has been elected to this position for the second time, Greg Barkley’s term will be 2 years. In fact, Tawengwa Mukuhlani of Zimbabwe was also a contender for the post of ICC chairman, but after his withdrawal, Greg Barkley was unanimously elected for a second term. Earlier, Greg Barkley was elected as the ICC Chairman in November 2020.

The Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee of the international cricket governing body decides the budget allocation for ICC events and looks after the distribution of funds to member nations from the total revenue pool. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) team led by Jay Shah and Arun Dhumal arrived in Australia a week before this weekend’s ICC Board meetings in Melbourne.

The BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who is representing the BCCI on the ICC board, is also set to succeed Ross McCollum as chair of the committee at its next meeting in March 2023. Also, the IPL chairman Arun Dhumal is set to be a member of ICC’s chief executives’ committee, reported ESPNcricinfo. Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly was a member of the F&CA committee till last year.

“India is a commercial hub of global cricket with more than 70 percent sponsorship coming from the region. It is imperative that an ICC F&CA should always be headed by BCCI,” the ICC source said.
