Bengaluru: An uncontrolled SUV rammed into several vehicles on a busy road in Bengaluru, killing two people and injuring four. The driver of the SUV, Mohan, has been arrested. He told the police that he lost control of the car due to pressing the accelerator at the stop signal instead of applying the brakes and the accident occurred. The car had a sticker of BJP MLA Harathalu Halappa, but it does not belong to him. Police said that the MLA was also not in the car.
The SUV belongs to retired forest officer Ramu Suresh, father-in-law of the MLA’s daughter Sushmita Halappa. Mohan, 48 years old, works for Mr. Suresh. According to the police, he was not intoxicated. Mohan was on his way to pick up Sushmita Halappa, a student of medicine and working at KIMS Hospital, when he lost control of the car and rammed into several cars. The car crushed two scooter riders, Majeed Khan and Ayyappa. One of them died on the spot, while the other succumbed during treatment in the hospital.
During interrogation, the 48-year-old said that he lost control of the car after accelerating at a stop signal. His Toyota Innova car carrying an MLA sticker hit three two-wheelers and two cars, killing 2 and injuring 4.
Pictures of the incident showed two bikes lying on the road, a dead body next to one of them and blood splattered on the road after the accident. Police said that two cars and three bikes were damaged.
