The United States and several other European nations are standing with Ukraine in the war against Russia. The US has supplied $3.4 billion worth of armaments to Ukraine since the beginning of the war between the two nations on Feb. 24. The US has provided howitzers, anti-aircraft Stinger systems, anti-tank Javelin missiles, ammunition, and recently-disclosed “Ghost” drones to Ukraine.
On Friday, US President Joe Biden signed a new $150 million weapons package deal with Ukraine, providing them with more artillery munitions, radar, and other modern equipment to combat the strong Russian troops and keep them at bay.
“Today, the United States is continuing our strong support for the brave people of Ukraine as they defend their country against Russia’s ongoing aggression,” Biden said in a statement.
Remember, Biden proposed a $33 billion aid package for Ukraine. Most of the assistance came in the form of ammunition. It is expected that $20 billion of that would be for military aid. Congress has to approve the new funding package. House of Representatives and Senate leaders have said they want to move quickly but have not yet said when they will vote on Biden’s request.
Biden has asked lawmakers to take a decision as quickly as possible, saying the latest weapons authorization “nearly exhausted” drawdown authority funding. “Congress should quickly provide the requested funding to strengthen Ukraine on the battlefield and at the negotiating table,” his statement said.
Meanwhile, the United States has been giving full-fledged military training to some Ukrainian forces outside Ukraine on how to handle systems like howitzers.
Biden has announced the new package as he is gearing up to join the other group of seven leaders through a virtual meeting on Sunday to show solidarity with the Ukrainian president, Volodomyr Zelensky, a day before Russia celebrates its Victory Day holiday.
Russian President Vladimir Putin started a war against Ukraine to defend Russian speakers there. However, Russian aggression has slowed down after failing to capture the capital, Kyiv. But the carpet bombardments are responsible for the huge civilian casualties. But Russia denies the allegation and says that it has been targeting only military or strategic sites and has not been harming civilians.
It is undeniable that Russian troops have made the lives of Ukrainian women hell. They are incessantly raping them. A mass level of rape has taken place.
