Guwahati: These days there is a period of factionalism and resentment in Tripura TMC. Angry over the appointment of Subal Bhowmik as the party’s Tripura unit president, TMC leader Ashish Das on Friday resigned from the Mamata Banerjee-led camp. The former BJP MLA from Soorma assembly constituency in Dhalai district, however, has not shown any desire to join any other party so far.
He said that when TMC was expanding in Tripura, eighty per cent people were eager to come with TMC. I too had joined the party. Now I see that it is not possible for me to continue in this party. That’s why I have resigned.
In bitter criticism of the Trinamool leadership, Mr Das alleged “internal groupism” in the party and said it was being run like a “puppet show.”
He said that I cannot give up my self-esteem. They (party leadership) don’t even consider us as human beings. So I have decided to leave Trinamool. He claimed that TMC wants to weaken the Congress and give benefits to the BJP. TMC sources said Das was unhappy with Bhowmik’s promotion.
The veteran leader had quit the BJP in October last year to join the TMC. Assembly Speaker Ratan Chakraborty had in January disqualified him from the post of MLA for six years on charges of misconduct. Das will not be able to contest elections during this period. Meanwhile, Bhowmik hit out at Das saying that he was nowhere to be seen in the party’s programs in so many months.
The newly appointed TMC state president said that Das was welcomed into TMC by party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. However, he was not seen at any party event after that. He had shaved his head and removed clothes as a mark of penance while moving from BJP to TMC. I have nothing more to say.
