Cuttack: Hockey has lost its significance despite being the national game of India. The Men’s Hockey World Cup is set to get underway on January 13 (Friday) in Odisha. People are not aware of it due to a lack of media coverage and strong sponsorship.

People in India watched the football World Cup with great enthusiasm, and most of them are Argentina fans. In the meantime, a few people noticed about the upcoming hockey World Cup.

Meanwhile, the bigule of the hockey World Cup sounded with a colourful programme that took place on Wednesday at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha. Top stars like Ranveer Singh and Disha Patani, singers like Neeti Mohan, and even the K-pop band BlackSwan performed on this occasion.

“Hockey Hai Dil Mera” is the official anthem of the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023. The song was sung by the composer of the anthem, Pritam, along with the 11 singers. It was performed live. The song was the official announcement of the beginning of the hockey World Cup 2023.

Several dignitaries, including FIH President Tayyab Ikram, Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Pattnaik, Indian Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Anurag Thakur, and President of Hockey India Dilip Tirkey, were present on the occasion.

World No. 1 Australia and defending champion Belgium are among the favourites. But Germany and the Netherlands are another remarkable team that is a threat to others. The notable absentee in this World Cup is four-time champion Pakistan, which failed to qualify for the 2023 edition.

India has an outside chance to lift the coveted trophy for the second time. India won it in 1975. The bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics must have given a shot in the arm to the Indian team. Team India is setting itself up to display its best hockey and make a podium finish on home turf.
