Bihar Police Revolutionizes Operations with Digital Transformation from January 1, 2024

In a significant leap towards modernization, Bihar Police is slated to embrace digitalization commencing January 1, 2024, through the implementation of the Criminal Tracking and Networking System (CCTNS), as announced by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jitendra Singh Gangwar.

Under this initiative, manual registers, including the entry of station diaries, will be transitioned to an online format across various police stations in the state. Traditionally documented manually, the station diaries will undergo digitalization, marking a pivotal shift in police station operations.

Digital Transformation from January 1, 2024

ADGP Gangwar highlighted the importance of this transformation, stating that the move to CCTNS will eliminate the need for back-dated entries, a practice often employed to justify actions. The station diaries, which chronicle daily affairs at police stations, will now be available in digital form, providing a more efficient and transparent record of activities.

The station diary, a crucial piece of evidence in documentary form, not only records daily occurrences at a police station but also allows Station House Officers (SHOs) to document interference or influence from higher officials or representatives. The digitization of this process aims to enhance accountability and reduce the potential for manipulation.

Out of 1033 police stations in Bihar, 964 have already been equipped with the CCTNS project. With the system going online, senior officers, including district superintendents of police, range deputy inspector generals of police, and inspector generals, will have the ability to access station diaries from any police station, facilitating oversight and coordination.

ADGP Gangwar emphasized the commitment of Bihar DGP Rajwinder Singh Bhatti towards paperless policing. The digital entry system will automatically record the time and date of each entry, reducing the likelihood of manipulation and enhancing the evidentiary value of the data.

Patna SSP Rajiv Mishra affirmed that the Patna police are already aligning with the directive from PHQ, ensuring the digital upload of station diaries in all police stations. He noted that police personnel have been instructed to make digital entries and updates every two hours, contributing to the seamless transition towards a digitalized policing system.
