Jaipur: The Rajya Sabha elections are coming nearer, and political parties are taking extra precaution to keep their MLAs from moving to other camps. The BJP on Monday did the same. The saffron party has shifted its MLAs to a resort in Jaipur in the name of a training camp for the Rajya Sabha elections to be held on June 10. The BJP MLAs gathered at the BJP office, from where they were taken to the resort in two buses.
A BJP spokesperson said the party is going to hold a training camp at the resort. The leader said that this is a training camp in which the MLAs will be given training on the Rajya Sabha elections.
The Congress has already sent several party and independent MLAs to a hotel in Udaipur, saying it fears horse-trading by the BJP.
The Congress party has fielded three candidates from Rajasthan. It has 108 MLAs in the Rajasthan assembly. The party is sure to win two seats. It has 26 surplus votes but is 15 short of getting the third berth in the Upper House. The BJP has nominated media baron Subhash Chandra as an independent candidate.
The saffron party will win at least one seat because the party has 71 MLAs in the state assembly. After this, it will be left with 30 surplus votes.
Congress leaders claim that the party has the support of 126 MLAs, including 108 of its own members. It needs the support of 123 MLAs to send its three members to the Rajya Sabha.
