BJP gets going in Kerala with Amit Shah yatra

Updated Date

New Delhi: In what can be termed as a curtain-raiser for the high-profile and star-studded “Janraksha Yatra” to be flagged off by party president Amit Shah in Kerala today against the alleged killing of right-wing cadre by CPM activists.

High on the symbolism of October 2, Prakash Javdekar drew a parallel between Gandhi’s movement against the British Raj and the saffron outfit’s efforts in Kerala.

“Just as Mahatma Gandhi led a democratic movement against the British Raj in the Freedom Movement, the BJP is launching a democratic movement to oppose the bloody and murderous politics of the CPM in the Kerala. In democracy, democratic protest is the way to go,” he said.

“Eighty four people have so far been killed in Kerala in the last 15 years by the CPM regimes whenever they have come to power. The chief minister’s district, Kannur, is a minefield of such political murders because since he has taken over power this time, already 14 political activists have been killed in extremely brutal ways,” he said.

It is worthwhile mentioning that BJP President Amit Shah would be launching the yatra on October 3, Javdekar said, as he would also lead the campaign on October 5 and 17, the last day of the campaign.

“The yatra would be made by activists on foot as well as vehicles, while public rallies and meetings will be organised all along the route,”the minister said.
