New Delhi: On Thursday, The country has got a new president. Former Jharkhand Governor and BJP-led NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu, 64, has created history by becoming first tribal women president of India.Draupadi Murmu is the second women President of India after Pratibha Patil. NDA leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Murmu’s victory congratulated Murmu. Yashwant Sinha also congratulated Murmu.She takes oath as the President of India on 25th July 2022.
In the count of the third round, he has taken 50 per cent votes necessary to become President. He has defeated the opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha with a big difference. Droupadi Murmu secured 2824 first preference votes-value of which is 6,76,803, while her rival Yashwant Sinha bagged 1,877 first preference votes– value of which is 3,80,177 votes, Returning Officer P C Mody said announcing Droupadi Murmu as the 15th President of India.
After the big win of Draupadi Murmu , Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “India scripts history. At a time when 1.3 billion Indians are marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a daughter of India hailing from a tribal community born in a remote part of eastern India has been elected our President! Congratulations to Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji on this feat.”

He further said, “Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji has been an outstanding MLA and Minister. She had an excellent tenure as Jharkhand Governor. I am certain she will be an outstanding President who will lead from the front and strengthen India’s development journey,” he said.

Opposition party candidate Yashwant Sinha also extended his wishes to Murmu saying, “I heartily congratulate Droupadi Murmu on her victory in Presidential Election 2022. I hope—indeed, every Indian hopes—that as 15th President she functions as Custodian of the Constitution without fear or favour. I join fellow countrymen in extending best wishes to her.”

Know about Draupadi Murmu
Draupadi Murmu comes from tribal community, Born on June 20, 1958, in Odisha’s Rairangpur. Very few people know about, that the new President of the country started his career as a clerk before coming into politics. He worked as Junior Assistant in Irrigation and Electricity Department until 1979 to 1983. By 1994 to 1997, he also serves as a tyrannical assistant teacher. Later, the Minister became the minister. With their victory, many records are also made. As the 64-year-old Draupadi Murmu was won, the country has got the first tribal president. At the same time, they are also the first leader to reach this top post after independence.
Draupadi Murmu has also become the most young president of the country. Earlier, he has served as Jharkhand’s ninth governor from 2015 to 2021. Draupadi Murmu also received the pride of becoming the first female governor of Jharkhand. She did her Bachelor’s degree in Arts from Bhubaneswar’s Ramadevi Women’s College in Bhubaneswar. Draupadi Murmu has overcome several personal tragedies in her life. The soft spoken tribal leader from Odisha’s Rairangpur lost her husband, two sons, mother and brother in just six years between 2009-2015.
