Some BJP MLAs and leaders in Madhya Pradesh are worried about a repeat of the tactics used in Gujarat.
Bhopal: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may be celebrating the Gujarat Assembly election results, but some party MLAs and leaders in Madhya Pradesh are worried about a repeat of the tactics used in Gujarat , where the entire cabinet was replaced last year and several sitting MLAs were denied tickets.
Even though there are conflicting opinions on the matter within the Madhya Pradesh BJP government, several senior leaders and MLAs of the saffron party expressed concern about a potential application of the “Gujarat formula” to Madhya Pradesh, where assembly elections are scheduled to be held in 2023.
“In the current political system, we need to plough fields to prepare the ground for agriculture and pull out bad roots before planting fresh seeds,” stated a Madhya Pradesh BJP functionary when questioned regarding a repetition of the Gujarat-type situation in Madhya Pradesh.
BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, without taking the name “Gujarat formula,” said, “Not only Madhya Pradesh, the same formula will be applied all over the country.” Gujarat has now gained the status of an ideal state.
The vote share of the BJP in Gujarat has jumped (the party was able to grab more than 50 percent of the vote in Gujarat), and the saffron party emerged victorious for the seventh time. “This has happened (in a state) for the first time after independence,” he said.
Currently, the BJP is in a comfortable position in Madhya Pradesh. The state has 230 MLAs in the state assembly, of which 127 are from the BJP and 96 from the Congress.
