BJP vs Mamata: Hundreds of workers stopped by cops, tear gas fired; Suvendu Adhikari detained amid rally

BJP is running Nabanna campaign against Mamta Banerjee government in West Bengal. There are reports of clashes between party workers and police coming to attend this mega rally.

Kolkata: The BJP opened a front to Mangwal against the Mamata Banerjee government of Bengal. Leader of the Opposition Shubendu Adhikari and Locket Chatterjee, who came to gherao the Secretariat, have been taken into custody by the police. Violent clashes broke out between supporters and police in Howrah. The protesters are being dispersed by water cannons. Tear gas shells were also used on the protesters. Demonstrations are taking place in Bengal under the Nabanna Chalo campaign.

Earlier, police arrested four BJP workers from Panagarh railway station in West Burdwan district when they were on their way to march to Nabanna Secretariat of Bengal BJP. The news of a clash is coming. The police have taken several party workers into custody. There was also a clash between BJP workers and police at Bolpur railway station.

Here too, the police detained the activists. Police is stopping BJP workers from going to Kolkata to take part in Nabanna Chalo campaign. Please tell that the police did not give permission to BJP’s Naban Chalo campaign.

Police put up barricades at railway stations
BJP workers are going to Kolkata by trains to join BJP’s Nabanna March. At the same time, the police have put up barricades at the railway stations. Here BJP leader Abhijeet Dutta said, “20 of our workers were stopped by the police near Durgapur railway station. I have reached here by other routes.”

-Commuters headed towards Howrah station affected.

Earlier on Monday, Kolkata traffic police had issued an advisory asking commuters to avoid certain roads and routes.

-Commuters are requested to avoid 2nd Hooghy bridge from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Howrah bridge from 12:00 PM to 04:00 PM on 13th Sept 2022.
-Besides, goods vehicles will be restricted to ply within the city of Kolkata from 04:00 AM to 08:00 pm

Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari was detained while trying to visit Santragachi during the BJP’s protest march to state secretariat Nabanna’. BJP MP Locket Chatterjee and party leader Rahul Sinha were also detained and whisked away in a prison van.

They were stopped in front of police training school at the approach to the Second Hooghly Bridge near the secretariat. BJP supporters from across West Bengal started arriving in Kolkata and neighbouring Howrah on Tuesday morning to take part in the saffron party’s ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ (march to secretariat) to protest against alleged corrupt practices of the TMC government.
