Blackbuck poachers shot dead three police personnel in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna

Guna: Blackbuck poachers killed three cops in Barkheda village in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna district in the wee hours of Saturday. The incident occurred at around 2.45 am.

Police said they had information that poachers were around. The moment they heard the sound of the police vehicle, which got them alert, they started incessant firing on policemen. During the exchange of fire, three cops were shot dead.

Rajeev Mishra, superintendent of police, told the media that the policemen had gone to a forest area near Aron to look for poachers following specific inputs. The poachers started firing as soon as they saw the cops. The police fired in defence, but the accused escaped from the spot, taking advantage of the dense foliage.

The deceased policemen have been identified as sub-inspector Rajkumar Jatav, head constable Sant Kumar Mina and constable Neeraj Bhargav. During the incident, the driver of the police vehicle got injured.

Later, the carcasses of four blackbucks and a peacock shot by the poachers were recovered from the spot.

State home minister Narottam Mishra consoled the deaths of the three police personnel and said that instructions had been given to take strict action against the criminals.

Meanwhile, the axe has fallen on Inspector General of Gwalior, Anil Sharma, who has been removed from the post amidst the incident.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has called for an emergency meeting with the DGP, Sudhir Saxena, and other officers.

The chief minister has announced an ex gratia of Rs 1 crore each to the next of the kin of the three deceased police personnel families.
