BMW Hit-and-Run Case: Mihir Shah in Police Custody Until July 16

Mihir Shah, the main suspect in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case, has been remanded to six days in police custody. Shah was arrested after a 60-hour manhunt. The incident resulted in the death of Kaveri Nakhwa and involved Shah and his driver dragging the victim with their car.

Mihir Shah’s Arrest
Mihir Shah, son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, was arrested on Tuesday after a statewide manhunt that lasted nearly 60 hours. A local court has remanded him to seven days in police custody.

CM Eknath Shinde’s Statement
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, “The opposition just blames, they have nothing else to do. I have instructed that the culprit in the hit-and-run case will not be spared. Strict action will be taken.” Regarding Rajesh Shah’s suspension from the party, he added, “The priority should be taking action against the accused and supporting the victim.”

Shah had been avoiding arrest since July 7, when he allegedly crashed his BMW into a two-wheeler in Worli, south-central Mumbai. The crash killed 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa, who was riding pillion, while her husband Pradeep survived with injuries.

Police Arguments in Court
In court, police argued for Shah’s custody to find out who helped him after the incident and who helped him avoid capture. They also need to check if Shah has a driving license and investigate the discarded car number plate. Police initially requested seven days of custody.

Defense’s Counterarguments
Shah’s lawyer argued that both Mihir and his driver were questioned together and that Shah had already explained the incident at the accident site. The defense questioned the need for further police custody.

CCTV Footage Reveals Details
CCTV footage presented in court showed Kaveri Nakhwa being dragged by the BMW for 1.5 km. Mihir Shah and his driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, were seen pulling Nakhwa off the car’s bonnet, placing her on the road, and switching seats. Bidawat then reversed the car over the victim before fleeing. Bidawat’s police custody has been extended until July 11.

Shiv Sena Sacks Rajesh Shah
In response to criticism, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, leader of the Shiv Sena, dismissed Rajesh Shah from his position as the party’s deputy leader. A notice from Shiv Sena secretary Sanjay More stated that Rajesh Shah has been relieved from his post but remains a party member. Police have indicated that Rajesh Shah helped his son escape after the crash and is currently out on bail.
