New Delhi: There is news of a boat capsizing in a river in Bangladesh. At least 23 people have died in the accident while dozens are said to be missing. The accident is being told of North Panchagad district of Bangladesh.

According to the information, at least 23 people were killed when a boat capsized in the Karatoya river, 468 km from the capital Dhaka, on Sunday afternoon.

Sujoy Kumar Roy, an officer of Boda police station in Panchgarh, said, “The bodies of 23 people, including women and children, have been retrieved so far.”

Officer-in-charge of Boda police station Sujoy Kumar Roy said the engine-powered boat was on its way to Bodeshari Hindu temple under Borososhi Union at around 1:30 pm near Awalia Ghat. Most of the travelers were going to the temple to celebrate Mahalaya.

Panchgarh Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Jahrul Islam said that the accident took place near Auliyaghat area. He said around 20-30 passengers aboard the boat were still missing. Panchgarh DC said, “Rescue work is on to recover the bodies and find the missing people.”
