Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Monday decided to grant bail to Siddharth Pithani, the man who used to share the flat of the deceased actor Sushant Singh Rajput. He was arrested in a drug case related to the actor’s death. Rajput’s former girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty, who is currently out on bail, is also one of the accused in the actor’s death.

A single bench of Justice Bharati Dangre granted bail to Pithani on a bond of Rs 50,000.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested Pithani in May 2021 from Hyderabad. Currently, he is in judicial custody.

He had been booked under Section 27 (A) (financing illicit traffic and harbouring offenders) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, among other charges.

Pithani had sought bail as he claimed that he was innocent and had been framed in a false case.

The NCB has filed draft charges against Rhea Chakraborty, and the actor’s sister says she is “hopeful in the SSR case.”

Pithani stated in his petition that no drugs were found on him and that he was never involved in drug trafficking.

Rajput committed suicide in his Mumbai residence in June 2020. Later, the NCB started a probe to find out the real culprit, based on some WhatsApp chats, into an alleged drug supply racket in the film industry.

The NCB had arrested several people regarding Rajput’s suicide, including Rhea Chakraborty. At present, most of them are now out on bail.
