Brazil: 12 dead after plane crash in Amazon’s Region

Brazil: Twelve people including a baby, aboard a small aircraft died following a crash in Amazon region of Brazil on Sunday. In a statement the government of the northwestern state of Acre said that the plane, a single engine Cessna Caravan went down near the main airport in Rio Branco, the capital of Acre state, shortly after taking off.

Brazil: Twelve people including a baby, aboard a small aircraft killed following a crash in Amazon region of Brazil on Sunday. In a statement the government of the northwestern state of Acre said that the plane, a single engine Cessna Caravan went down near the main airport in Rio Branco, the capital of Acre state, shortly after taking off.

Ten passengers, including nine adults and an infant, as well as the pilot and co-pilot died on spot, the statement added. The plane erupted in flames on impact, causing a forest fire in a remote area near border of Brazil with Peru and Bolivia, according to local press reports, the

Many of the passengers were returning to the neighboring Amazonas state after receiving medical care, the media reports said. A video, purportedly from the crash site, which is currently circulating on social media, shows burning debris in the middle of the forest.

Earlier in September, fourteen people were killed when a plane crashed while trying to land during a storm in the Amazonas town of Barcelos. In June, four Indigenous children survived a plane crash in the Colombian Amazon, then managed to stay alive for 40 days in the jungle before being rescued in a massive search.
