Mayawati, in her tweet, announced the ban on PFI due to upcoming state elections. She wrote, “After targeting the PFI in several ways, the central government has banned the organisation and its eight associates ahead of the assembly elections.

The opposition parties claim that the government’s intentions are unclear, and they are also demanding to impose a ban on RSS as well. “They argue that if PFI poses a risk to national security, then why should several similar organisations not be banned?” she said.

UP Minister Dayashankar Singh hit back at Mayawati and said it was horrible to compare the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) with PFI because the RSS is involved in social work that is not being done by the government.

SP spokesperson Udayavar Singh said the BJP needs to avoid giving political colour, like a ban on PFI. It is the matter of an investigation agency, and the saffron party should not interfere and allow the probe agency to work freely.

According to political analyst Ratna Mani Lal, Mayawati has frequently talked amid the needs of minorities in Uttar Pradesh, but her statement on the ban of PFI is an attempt to show sympathy with the Muslim community, other parties like SP and AIMIM are sailing in the same boat.
