Texas: According to a media source, burglars broke into a Hindu temple in the US state of Texas and took away some of the valuables from the temple premises, shocking the Indian community.
KBTX-TV reported on Friday that the event occurred at Shri Omkarnath Temple in the Brazos Valley, Texas, on January 11.
When something like this happened to us, Srinivasa Sunkari, a board member for the Brazos Valley Shri Omkarnath Temple, said, “There was a sense of invasion, that sensation of loss of privacy.”
The only Hindu temple in the Brazos Valley is here, providing local Hindus a chance to worship where they can pray and feel a sense of peace.
“The side window of the temple was broken, the donation box was missing, and a safe as well, where we used to keep our valuables,” Sunkari said.
Fortunately, the priest and his family, who live in the building that is behind the temple, are safe, he said.
As per the video captured by security cameras, a person ignored the shrine and went to the donation box. The suspect then used the temple’s cart to wheel it out the door. “We hope that this kind of incident should not happen to anybody in the future,” Sunkari said.
The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office claims that the entire matter is being probed.
