New Delhi: Business tycoon Gautam Adani has overtaken Bernard Arnault of France to become the third richest person in the world, achieving another feat. This is the first time an Asian has entered the top three of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Business tycoon Gautam Adani has overtaken Bernard Arnault with a net worth of $137 billion. Now ahead of the chairman of the Adani Group, only Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos are ahead. Musk’s net worth is currently $ 251 billion, while Bezos (Jeff Bezos Networth) currently has a net worth of $ 153 billion. Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries Limited, is at number 11 with a net worth of $ 91.9 billion.
Gautam Adani had overtaken Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates to take the fourth spot last month before leaving behind Bernard Arnault. Gates donated a large part of his wealth to the cause of social service last month, due to which his net worth was greatly reduced in a jiffy. On the other hand, Adani’s companies have consistently performed well, beating the stock market, which has increased their net worth. Now Gates’s net worth has come down to $117 billion.
The year 2022 has proved to be a great one for Adani. The pace at which Adani’s wealth has grown this year, no other billionaire can even stand close to him. This year his net worth has increased by more than $ 60 billion, which is at least 5 times more than the rest. In February this year, Adani had overtaken Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani to become the richest person in India as well as Asia. Adani’s net worth crossed $100 billion for the first time in April this year.
The last few months have proved to be great for Gautam Adani on the business front as well. During this, he made many important deals one after the other. More recently, Adani’s name was in the news for trying to buy a stake in media company NDTV. Adani Group company AMG Media Network Limited through its subsidiary Vishwapradhan Commercial Private Limited has attempted to buy 99.99 percent shares of RRPR Holding Private Limited, a promoter company of NDTV. However, the matter is still pending due to some legal reasons.
Earlier in May, Gautam Adani’s company had announced to buy Holcim’s Indian cement business. The deal was done for $10.5 billion. With this deal, the Adani Group reached the second position in the Indian cement market in a jiffy. Adani’s company Adani Power this month had announced to buy thermal power plant operator DB Power for Rs 7,017 crore. The Adani Group had in July secured a lease to operate a port in Israel. Similarly, the company has bought road toll business in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat from Macquarie Asia Infrastructure Fund for Rs 3,110 crore.
