Businessman Robbed During Arun Govil’s BJP Roadshow in Meerut

Meerut : In a distressing turn of events, Meerut businessman Kulbhushan found himself among a dozen individuals who were victims of theft during a roadshow featuring BJP’s Meerut candidate Arun Govil. The incident occurred as the roadshow, which included Ramayan stars Arun Govil, Dipika Chikhlia, and Sunil Lahri, passed by Kulbhushan’s shop in Uttar Pradesh.

Theft Amidst Chants: Kulbhushan, motivated by the presence of Arun Govil and the nostalgic resonance of the ‘Ramayan’ stars, raised his hands and chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ as the convoy passed. However, amidst the bustling crowd, he fell victim to pickpockets who swiftly relieved him of his wallet containing Rs 36,000.

Widespread Incidents: Kulbhushan’s unfortunate experience was not isolated, as several others, including journalists and a BJP leader, reported thefts during the roadshow. Alok Sisodia, the BJP’s western region coordinator, also had his mobile phone stolen amidst the chaos.

Police Action: Prompt action by the police led to the arrest of three individuals from Delhi suspected of carrying out the thefts. Stolen mobile phones were recovered, and a vehicle with a Delhi number plate was seized, indicating the organized nature of the criminal activity.

Implications and Election Context:

This incident underscores the challenges of maintaining security and orderliness during high-profile political events, especially amidst large crowds. With the Meerut constituency gearing up for elections in the second phase on April 26, such incidents raise concerns regarding the safety of both participants and spectators during election campaigns. The swift response by law enforcement authorities is commendable and highlights the importance of vigilance and proactive measures to ensure the smooth conduct of democratic processes.
