By-elections to be held in Odisha, Rajasthan, Bihar, UP and Chhattisgarh on Dec 5, continuing on Dec 8

New Delhi: India Election Commission (ECI) has announced the date of by-elections in Odisha, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Voting will be on December 5. Votes will be counted on December 8, when the results of Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat assembly elections will be declared on December 8.

New Delhi: India Election Commission (ECI) has announced the date of by-elections in Odisha, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Voting will be on December 5. Votes will be counted on December 8, when the results of Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat assembly elections will be declared on December 8.

“The Commission has decided to hold the bye-election to fill vacancies in the following Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies of Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Bihar and Chhattisgarh,” the poll body stated.

Voting will be held for the parliamentary seat in Mainpuri. Polling for the assembly seats will be held in Odisha’s Padampur, Rajasthan’s Sardarshahr, Bihar’s Kurhani, Chhattisgarh’s Bhanupratappur (ST) and Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur.”The Commission has decided to use EVMs and VVPATs in the bye-elections in all the polling stations. Adequate numbers of EVMs and VVPATs have been made available and all steps have been taken to ensure that the polls are conducted smoothly with the help of these machines,” a statement read.

Notification will be issued on November 10 for these seats. The last date of the nomination of candidates is 17 November. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on November 18, while the candidates will be able to withdraw their nomas till November 21.

Earlier, the Election Commission had announced the assembly elections in Gujarat. Assembly elections will be held in Gujarat in two phases. In the first phase, voting for 89 seats will be held on December 1, while in the second phase, 93 seats will be voted on December 5, while the results of Gujarat elections will be declared on December 8. Counting of votes will also take place on these seats with by-elections on the same day and the result of Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections will be declared on the same day.
