Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced in an Instagram post on Wednesday that he and his wife, Sophie, are separating.
The couple has three children – Javier (15), Ella-Grace (14), Hadrian (9). At the same time, in a post on social media, Sophie accepted that long-term relationships are challenging in many ways. Justin Trudeau and Sophie said in statements posted on Instagram that they had decided to separate after a long conversation.
Apart from the Instagram post, the PMO has also issued a statement in this regard. The PMO also confirmed that the couple has signed the divorce papers. PMO spokesperson Alison Murphy said the couple followed all legal procedures in deciding to separate. The PMO said that the focus of PM and Sophie is on their children at the moment. They are working hard for all three of their children to raise their children in a safe, loving way. Even after separation, they will be in constant contact with their children. The PMO said Canadians expect to see the couple together more often. They may go on vacation early next week.
