Patna: On Wednesday, Bihar’s chief minister, Nitish Kumar, made it clear that a caste-based survey will prove a boon for the poor section and asserted that his government is adamant for all-round development.
Kumar expressed surprise over a Supreme Court petition contesting the caste-based census being carried out by the Bihar government and insisted that this survey will be different from the census being carried out by the Center. It will not only count the state’s existing population but also assess their economic situation and estimate the number of migrants who really reside outside the state.
“Caste surveys will inform us how to deal with uplifting the underprivileged classes.” On his Samadhan Yatra in Madhubani, he told reporters, “We want progress for everyone.” He noted that the headcount being conducted in Bihar was not a census but rather a “ganana”.
When I learned about the petition, I was surprised. Why should anyone have a problem with the survey? It is being carried out for the welfare and benefit of the people from all walks of life living in society.
According to the chief minister, 25 to 30 lakh individuals returned to the state during the coronavirus pandemic, and we helped them by making arrangements for their food, medical care, and lodging.
The Supreme Court agreed on Thursday to hear the appeal on January 20 challenging the Bihar government’s move to conduct a caste census in the state. According to the petition, the notification was illegal, arbitrary, irrational, and unconstitutional.
The chief minister inaugurated the freshly built “Mithila Haat” for the public. It was built on the pattern of the iconic ‘Dilli Haat’ at Araria Sangram village in Jhanjharpur block. He praised water resources minister Sanjay Kumar Jha for his efforts in completing the project.
