The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken a significant step in the Manipur armoury loot case, filing a charge sheet against seven individuals linked to the incident that occurred during the ethnic violence last year. This development comes in the aftermath of a mob’s looting spree, where over 300 weapons, 19,800 rounds of ammunition, and various accessories were stolen from two rooms at the 2nd Indian Reserve Battalion headquarters in Naranseina, Bishnupur.
CBI Charge Sheets Against 7 in Manipur Armoury Loot Case. The charge sheet, recently submitted to the chief judicial magistrate’s court in Kamrup (Metro) in Guwahati, lists the accused as Laishram Prem Singh, Khumukcham Dhiren (Thapkpa), Moirangthem Anand Singh, Athokpam Kajit (Kishorjit), Loukrakpam Michael Mangangcha (Michael), Konthoujam Romojit Meitei (Romojit), and Keisham Johnson (Johnson).
The incident unfolded on August 3 last year when a mob descended upon the Indian Reserve Battalion headquarters during a gathering. The crowd had assembled to march towards Churachandpur, intending to conduct a mass burial for those who lost their lives in the ethnic clashes that erupted in Manipur on May 3 of the same year.
