New Delhi: On Saturday, The CBI conducted searches at the residence of Congress MP Karti Chidambaram, son of Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram in connection with the Chinese visa case, officials said.This raid has been done at the house located in Chennai.
Officials said that during searches on May 17 after the registration of the FIR, a part of the Congress leader’s house was sealed as keys were not available. They told that the key was with his wife who was abroad at the time of search.Officials said searches were resumed in that part on Saturday after the agency got the keys.
Taking to Twitter, Karti P Chidambaram tweeted, “When CBI searched the residence located at No.16, Pycrofts Garden Road, Nungambakkam, Chennai on May 17, 2022, they found nothing. There was one cupboard in the residence that was locked and the owner was abroad. That cupboard was opened today July 9, 2022 and there were only clothes. The CBI found nothing and seized nothing,” read the statement. “However, the CBI has illegally seized a laptop and an iPad belonging to Mr.Karti P.Chidambaram’s daughter (who is a University student) that contains her academic work. We have strongly protested the action and will move the Courts against the illegal seizure,” the statement added.

The Chinese visa case pertains to the issue of visas to 263 Chinese nationals in 2011, when Karti’s father and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram was the Union Home Minister in the Congress-led UPA government. On May 14, The CBI had registered an FIR against Karti Chidambaram and others for allegedly paying a bribe of Rs 50 lakh to him and his close aide S Bhaskararaman in 2011.
