New Delhi: On Friday, A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches in Sandeshkhali at the house of suspended Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan in connection with its probe into an attack on an ED team in the area.
According to report, CBI officials also visited the areas around Shahjahan’s residence in Akunchipara area of Sarbariya to collect evidence related to the case. The officials later went to his office.
Shaikh, suspended from the ruling Trinamool Congress, was arrested in a case related to the mob attack on ED officials in Sandeshkhali in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district on January 5 when the central agency went to search his premises in this regard. The 14-member team included six CBI detectives, six central forensic officers, besides two ED officers who were injured in the January 5 attack. Along with ED officials and forensic experts, the CBI team conducted the search in the presence of central forces securing the area.

The attack took place when the central agency searched Shahjahan’s premises over the alleged ration distribution scam. After securing the custody of the TMC senior leader from the Bengal CID, the CBI on Thursday attempted to search both his residence and office in Sandeshkhali, but failed to do so.
On Friday, investigators broke the seal and entered Shahjahan’s house, which was sealed earlier. Earlier in the day, a CBI team took Sheikh Shahjahan to ESI Hospital for routine medical examination before taking him to the CBI office at Nizam Palace in Kolkata for further proceedings.
Sheikh Shahjahan, along with associates Shiba Prasad Hazra, Uttam Sardar and others, is facing charges of sexual harassment and land grab in Sandeshkhali. After evading authorities for 55 days, Sheikh Shahjahan was arrested on 29 February.
