Centre big action! Bans seven Indian and one Pak Youtube channels for spreading ‘disinformation’ and ‘fake anti-India content’

Information and Broadcasting Ministry has blocked 7 Indian and 1 Pakistan based YouTube news channel under IT Rules, 2021. The blocked channels were viewed more than 114 crore times, and had 85 lakh 73 thousand subscribers. Fake anti-India content was being monetized by block channels on YouTube.

New Delhi: Information and Broadcasting Ministry has blocked 7 Indian and 1 Pakistan based YouTube news channel under IT Rules, 2021. The blocked channels were viewed more than 114 crore times, and had 85 lakh 73 thousand subscribers. Fake anti-India content was being monetized by block channels on YouTube. The content published by some of these YouTube channels was aimed at spreading hatred among religious communities in India. False claims were made in various videos from Block YouTube channels.

Examples include fake news such as the Indian government ordering the demolition of religious structures; The Government of India has banned the celebration of religious festivals, declaration of religious war in India etc. Such material was found to have the potential to create communal disharmony and disturb the public order in the country.YouTube channels were also used to post fake news on various topics like Indian Armed Forces, Jammu and Kashmir etc. The content was considered to be completely inaccurate and sensitive from the point of view of national security and India’s friendly relations with foreign states. The contents were blocked by the ministry on India’s sovereignty and integrity, state security, India’s friendly relations with foreign states and found to be harmful to the public order in the country.

The material was included under the purview of section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.Blocked Indian YouTube channels were seen using fake and sensational thumbnails, images of news anchors and logos of some TV news channels to make viewers believe that the news was authentic. All YouTube channels blocked by the ministry They were displaying advertisements on their videos containing false content harmful to communal harmony, public order and India’s foreign relations.

With this action, the ministry has issued instructions to block 102 YouTube based news channels and several other social media accounts from December 2021. The Government of India is committed to ensuring an authentic, reliable and secure online news media environment, and thwarts any attempt to undermine India’s sovereignty and integrity, national security, foreign relations and public order.
