Centre launches India’s first intranasal COVID-19 vaccine ‘INCOVACC’

New Delhi: India has achieved another milestone in dealing with Corona. On January 26, on the occasion of Republic Day, the first intranasal covid vaccine made in India has been launched. Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh launched Bharat Biotech’s Nasal Covid-19 vaccine iNCOVACC on Thursday. It was earlier named BBV154. This vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech will be available to the government for Rs 325 per dose, while it will cost Rs 800 in private hospitals.

on 23 December 2022, the Central Government had approved the Nasal vaccine of Bharat Biotech. This vaccine can be used as a booster dose. Initially, the nasal vaccine will be installed in private hospitals. The government has also included this vaccine in India’s Covid 19 vaccination program. Earlier, the Drug Controller General of India, DCGI, had approved Bharat Biotech’s Intranasal Covid vaccine for emergency use.

Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) had approved the restricted use of the intranasal vaccine in emergency situations in the age group of 18 and above. Two doses of the vaccine are to be given 28 days apart.

According to the company, iNCOVACC is the world’s first intranasal vaccine for covid-19 to have received approval for a primary two-dose schedule, and as a heterologous booster dose.

As per the vaccine maker Bharat Biotech, one can book an appointment for the intranasal vaccine dose by visiting the CoWin website.
