Chandrababu Naidu to Take Oath as Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister on June 12

Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP), along with allies BJP and Janasena Party, won a big victory in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, securing 164 out of 175 seats. According to TDP sources, Naidu is set to take the oath as Chief Minister on June 12, instead of the earlier date of June 9.

This win is a major comeback for Naidu, who lost badly five years ago to Jagan Mohan Reddy. The TDP, with its allies, led in 130 out of 175 seats as per the latest counts. This victory comes months after Naidu’s arrest on corruption charges. In the previous assembly, TDP had only 23 members.

The alliance also did well in the Lok Sabha elections, leading in 16 out of 25 seats, with BJP and JNP ahead in three and two seats, respectively.

Naidu’s Political Career

Chandrababu Naidu was born on April 20, 1950, in Naravaripalli, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh. He started in student politics at Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati. Naidu joined the Congress party, became a cabinet minister, and later moved to TDP, founded by his father-in-law, N T Rama Rao.

Naidu first became Chief Minister in 1995 and served three terms. His first two terms were during the united Andhra Pradesh era from 1995 to 2004. After the state split, he became Chief Minister of the new Andhra Pradesh state in 2014 and served until 2019. He played a key role in modernizing Hyderabad and supported the formation of the first NDA government under Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

As Chief Minister post-bifurcation, Naidu pushed for Amaravati to be the state capital. However, his loss to Jagan Mohan Reddy left this project unfinished.
