One of these is the Alto, which has had a profound standing in the segment. The entry-level hatchback has been a choice for many because of its small car practicality and a fuel efficiency figure of about 25 kmpl. In August 2017 sales, the mini segment which comprises of Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Alto K10 and Maruti Suzuki Wagon R reported sales of 35,428 units against 35,490 units in the same period.

While under the bonnet, the Alto 800 Utsav Edition has remained unchanged, there are now some additional features that celebrate this festive season and add to the conveniences offered in the car.

The first aspect to know is that the Alto 800 Utsav Edition will come at a raised price of Rs 20,000 compared to its standard version – the Alto 800 Vxi(O) variant on which the festive edition is based on. However, what all has been added to justify this price rise?

For starters, the Utsav Edition comes with some cosmetic upgrades, such as new seat covers, ORVM indicators, door seal guard and chrome accents on the bumper and tail lamps.

Maruti Suzuki is also planning to showcase a new entry-level hatchback soon that will compete with Renault Kwid. The company already showcased a concept at 2012 Geneva Motor Show and plans to unveil it at the 2018 Auto Expo. After the launch of the Kwid, there has been a slight drop in sales of the Alto, however, it still continues to be a market leader in the entry-level segment. There are not many details known about the new hatchback but it is expected to have a higher ground clearance and SUV like styling. It is likely to carry the usual Maruti Suzuki engines – the 800cc and 1.0-litre petrol.
