Chennai: A 22-year-old woman software engineer fell down from her vehicle while trying to avoid a pothole in Chennai on Tuesday, following which she was run over by a truck. The victim Shobhana was working as an engineer in a private tech company Zoho. Shobhana was reportedly going to drop her brother at an institute for NEET coaching classes. Brother also suffered injuries in the accident but he is alive and is undergoing treatment.
Police said that neither Shobhana nor her brother was wearing a helmet. The truck driver, identified as Mohan, was arrested after he fled the scene after the accident. “None of them was wearing a helmet. Zoho CEO Sridhar Vembu condoled on social media and blamed bad roads for Shobhana’s death. Shobhana’s body was recovered by the police and sent for post-mortem. According to the police, following Shobhana’s death, Chennai civic authorities repaired the damaged portions of the road.
