Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel shared a video of himself being whipped on Tuesday during the Gaura-Gauri puja in the Durg area of the state. In order to perform these yearly ceremonies when Lord Shiv and Goddess Parvati are honoured, Baghel travelled to Janjgiri and Kumhari Basti. He participates in these tribal festivals every year as he hopes it will bring happiness and prosperity to the state.
According to a tweet from the chief minister’s office, a local by the name of Birender Thakur used a whip to strike the Chief Minister’s hands during the festivities in an effort to drive out evil and provide prosperity to the people.
The Chief Minister tweeted: “Reaching Janjgiri and Kumhari Basti villages today, worshipping Gauri-Gaura and wishing the happiness and prosperity” of the people of the state. Sharing a video of himself being whipped, Bhupesh Baghel said, “The sota strike and the discharge of traditions.” He was whipped five times.
In the state, the Gaura-Gauri ritual takes place on the eve of Diwali, which is a part of the annual custom. Every year, Bhupesh Baghel goes to the state’s tribal areas to participate in the celebrations.
