Chhattisgarh: Nine Maoists killed in encounter with security personnel in Bijapur

Bijapur: On Tuesday, an official said that nine Maoists were killed in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh in a major encounter with security personnel. The encounter broke out in a forest near Lendra village at around 6 am.

Bijapur: On Tuesday, an official said that nine Maoists were killed in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh in a major encounter with security personnel. The encounter broke out in a forest near Lendra village at around 6 am.

Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P said that as per officials it happened when a joint team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxal operation.

The senior official added that in the operation, personnel belonging to the District Reserve Guard, Special Task Force, Central Reserve Police Force and its elite unit Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) were involved.

After the encounter, the security personnel also recovered several automatic weapons, including a light machine gun and other weapons. After the exchange of fire stopped, the bodies of four Naxalites along with a light machine gun and other weapons were recovered from the spot.

The IG said that Furthermore, more bodies were found at the encounter site. He adding that a search operation was still underway in the area. The encounter comes just days ahead of Lok Sabha elections. The Bastar Lok Sabha constituency goes to polls in the first phase on April 19.
