Childhood smoking increases risk of arthritis

London: According to the information gathered through a study, exposure to passive smoking habit in childhood slowly increase the risk of causing rheumatoid arthritis later. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disorder affecting many joints, including those in the hands and feet.




The study disclosed that the childhood passive smokers’ hazard ratio was 1.73 as compared to the non-smokers who are not exposed to smoking during their childhood.




The professor at the University Hospitals of South Paris, Raphaele Seror went on to say: “Our study highlights the importance of avoiding any tobacco environment in children, especially in those with a family history of rheumatoid arthritis.”
