China: 15 killed, 44 injured after a massive fire in Nanjing Residential Building Blaze

Beijing: On Saturday, local authorities said Saturday at least 15 people have been killed after a fire at a residential building in eastern China's Nanjing. After receiving information about this incident, fire tenders reached on the spot.

Beijing: On Saturday, local authorities said Saturday at least 15 people have been killed after a fire at a residential building in eastern China’s Nanjing. After receiving information about this incident, fire tenders reached on the spot.

According to the information, 44 people injured in this incident. At a press conference officials said, the fire broke out early Friday morning. After a preliminary investigation suggesting the blaze started on the building’s first floor, where electric bikes had been placed.

The building is located in the Yuhuatai district of Nanjing, a city with a population of more than eight million and about 260 kilometers northwest of Shanghai. Officials said the fire was extinguished by 6:00 am and the search and rescue operation ended around 02:00 pm on Friday.

On Chinese social networks, Footage circulated shows a skyscraper on fire at midnight, with black smoke billowing from it. Other images showed huge flames engulfing several floors of the building, with flashing lights of emergency vehicles nearby visible in the darkness.

Additional footage, apparently taken later, shows white smoke billowing from multiple points in the building. Officials said 44 injured people were sent to hospital for treatment.

He said that the condition of one is critical while the other is seriously injured. At a press conference, city mayor Chen Xichang offered his condolences and apologies to the victims’ families.
