New Delhi: On Friday, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Chinese President Xi Jinping will host the 14th summit of BRICS countries Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa in Beijing on June 23. China will chair BRICS this year. The summit will be held through video link.

According to the information, The theme of this year’s summit is “Foster High-quality BRICS Partnership, Usher in a New Era for Global Development”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa are expected to take part in the summit hosted by Chinese President Xi.

BRICS leaders and leaders of relevant emerging markets and developing countries will attend the event, the announcement said. “BRICS have stood the test of changing the international landscape and have become an important force to be reckoned with on the international stage. As the world faces drastic changes and a pandemic both unseen in (this) century, it enters a new period of volatility and transformation,” Wang said at the regular ministry briefing on Friday.
