Choker tag continues with South Africa; Netherlands knock them out of T20 World Cup

The Netherlands have knocked South Africa out of the T20 World Cup. It means India has qualified for the semifinal.

Adelaide: Uncertainty always looms in cricket. The Netherlands have knocked South Africa out of the T20 World Cup. It means India has qualified for the semifinal, while the upcoming match between Pakistan and Bangladesh would be a virtual quarterfinal.

The proteas were gutted and hurt by this loss. Earlier, they were robbed of a point against Zimbabwe due to rain.

Colin Ackerman was adjudged the Player of the Match for his tremendous batting  effort.

Earlier, the Proteas won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Adelaide Oval. The Netherlands managed to score 158 for four in the 20 overs. The top order of the oranje shirt batted sensibly and chipped in useful runs. Ackerman was the top scorer, hitting 41 runs in 26 balls. 

South African bowlers were lacking spark, they were not hitting the target. The Netherlands batters took advantage of the poor bowling of the Proteas and scored a decent total.

South Africa is known as “the choker” on the cricket field. Once again, this happened today in a crucial encounter, and the Proteas failed to cross the Netherlands score and in the end lost the match by 13 runs.

Credit should be given to the Netherlands bowlers and fielders for their immaculate performance. Brandon Glover was the pick of the bowlers. He took three wickets at the expense of nine runs.

The minnows upset South Africa and opened the path to the semifinals for another teams.
