CISF constable shot self with a self-loading rifle at Chennai airport, probe on

Chennai: A 26-year-old Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable posted at Chennai airport died by suicide as he shot himself with a self-loading rifle (SLR)on his fore head in the toilet area at the International terminal on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Pulak Rajbongshi, and was a native of Assam. The reason for his extreme action is not immediately known. He was a member of a freshly recruited batch of CISF and was working in Chennai for the last three months and was unmarried.

According to airport sources, the jawan, was supposed to report for duty in the afternoon.

“He seems to have straight away walked to the bathroom to kill himself from his barrack located near the old airport in Meenambakkam,” sources added.

The police and CISF sources said that he had not left behind any suicide note. The officials are also examining his mobile phone details hoping to find out the reason for his extreme step.

“It is not clear if he had any issued with his superiors or if he was home sick or had any kind of relationship issues,” sources added.

His body was taken to a near-by government hospital, Chromepet GH, for autopsy.
