U U Lalit has recommended the name of Justice DY Chandrachud to the Center as the 50th Chief Justice of India.
According to protocol, the current Chief Justice of India has to send a formal letter of recommendation for his successor in writing to the government. The letter is given to the next Chief Justice of India, who forwards it to the Law Minister.
A meeting of all SC judges has been set for 10:15 am for the formal delivery of the letter.
The photos from the “ceremony” were initially made public by the former Chief Justice of India, Justice NV Ramana.
Former CJI Justice NV Ramana was the first to initially release the photographs of the “ceremony” to the public. Now it appears that the SC is making the handing over of the letter a more public event.
