Clarify stand over largesse of Rs 100 cr to Etawah college: SC to Yogi govt

The Supreme Court today sought explanation by the Yogi Aditynath government regarding its stand over the largesse of over Rs 100 crore to a degree college in Etawah during 2003-07.

Former Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and his brother Shivpal Singh Yadav were the patrons of the college that is run by a society.

“How could such huge money be allocated to a society,” a bench of Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice D Y Chandrachud asked Uttar Pradesh counsel D K Singh.

On his plea that the state would also appoint its own members in the management committee of the college, the bench told him, “You are nobody to do so at the moment. How can you do it? It is run by a society where you do not have any say.” The then Samajwadi government, however, has questioned a “review” audit undertaken by the CAG, calling it impermissible.
